Ball and butterfly valves are quarter-turn on-off isolation valves - a ball valve uses a rotating ball with a bored passage, a butterfly valve a rotating disc across the flow path. Both are supplied manual or pneumatically actuated.

Class VI (per ANSI/FCI 70-2, referenced against BS 5351 duty here) is the tightest standard bubble-tight shut-off classification for a soft-seated valve - effectively zero measurable leakage across the closed valve.
